Alphamega Hypermarkets is Cyprus’ largest and fastest-growing supermarket chain, boasting a total of 19 stores – including two convenience stores at the Limassol and Ayia Napa marinas – and an online store catering to customers all over Cyprus via two distribution centres in Larnaca and Limassol. At present, the company has more than 2,200 employees.

In recent years, Alphamega Hypermarkets has been leading the way, making significant strides in terms of technological advancement. Indicatively, it was the first retail company in Cyprus to design and implement a digital transformation strategy, while it has recently digitised its entire range of operations. At the same time, Alphamega is always adopting the latest technological innovations to the benefit of its employees, partners and customers, upgrading its services and shopping experience, while offering a variety of high-quality products at a wide price range.

Alphamega Hypermarkets has received the Investors in People standard certification three times and won multiple other awards. Milestones

1996

The story of Alphamega Hypermarkets begins with the launch of the Charalambides Hypermarket in Engomi – a state-of-the-art hypermarket for its time.

1997

Mr. Andreas Papaellinas acquires Charalambides Hypermarket in Engomi and establishes C.A. Papaellinas Group Ltd, under which the hypermarket currently operates.

2002

Charalambides Hypermarket is renamed ‘Alphamega’. At the same time, the company expands by opening a second hypermarket in Acropolis, which introduces a new way of shopping in Cyprus, as customers, along with their shopping carts, could access the market’s first floor via a special escalator.

2004

The company acquires a local hypermarket in Larnaca, which is then renovated into a modern Alphamega Hypermarket.

2007

In October 2007, C.A. Papaellinas Group Ltd expands to Limassol by developing a modern and spacious hypermarket.

2009

The company increases its presence in the Cypriot market by opening two new hypermarkets in Kamares, Larnaca and Linopetra, Limassol.

2011

The company acquires a local hypermarket in Deftera, which is renovated and relaunched under the name ‘Alphamega fresh & easy’. At the end of the year, C.A. Papaellinas Group Ltd expands in Paphos with the operation of a state-of-the-art hypermarket, offering Paphos consumers an all-new shopping experience.

2013

In 2013, the company opens new hypermarkets in Larnaca, Kolossi, Skarinou and Kapsalos.

2014

The company establishes a presence in the newly established Limassol Marina, through the operation of the Alphamega Limassol Marina convenience store.

2016

A new Alphamega Hypermarket opens in Latsia.

2018

The new Alphamega Hypermarket in Lakatamia opens its doors, introducing a series of innovations, such as self-checkouts and touchscreens, upgrading the customers’ shopping experience. 2018 also saw the opening of the chain’s hypermarket in Kiti.

2019

Continuing its expansion, the company opens its second hypermarket in Paphos – Alphamega Aphrodite – along with a hypermarket in Polemidia.

2020

Alphamega Hypermarkets is awarded with the CIO 100 Award, as one of the 100 most technologically innovative companies worldwide, joining retail giants such as Samsung, Deloitte Global, Nestle, and Dell. 

2021

The company succeeded in its digital transformation, expanding its activities to e-commerce and creating its own e-store.

2022

Alphamega Hypermarkets enters into a strategic partnership with leading French retailer Casino Group. Through this collaboration, the chain brings a wide range of low-priced food items to the Cypriot market. In the same year, the second Alphamega Hypermarkets distribution centre is launched, a project which significantly improved the company’s capacity to respond to the increasing number of online orders.

2023

In May 2023, Alphamega Hypermarkets launches the innovative Click & Collect shopping service, giving customers the opportunity to pick up the order they have placed through the Alphamega Hypermarkets e-store themselves, bypassing the delivery service.
